Welsh Cakes are a tea cake that comes from a time before baking when people cooked over the open fire. Our cakes are made by hand on griddles as they have been made in Wales for centuries. Our unique family recipe makes our cakes lighter and not particularly high in fat or calories. Usually eaten with tea, coffee or milk they may be warmed and served with clotted cream and jam or eaten right out of the package. Each cake is 2.5″ in diameter and 1/2″ tall and weighs about 1 ounce. Our cakes are a very typical size and weight for a Welsh Cake like you would find in Wales SO PLEASE! don’t buy them expecting them to be like something they are not. They are NOT English muffins or crumpets nor are they meant to be. They are what they always have been – a hand griddled tea cake.
